Use this complete moving checklist to stay on track from start to finish.


8 Weeks Before Moving

  • Create a moving budget.

  • Decide whether to hire professional movers or move yourself.

  • Research and book a moving company early.

  • Begin decluttering your home by donating, selling, or discarding items you no longer need.

  • Gather important documents and store them in a safe place.


6 Weeks Before Moving

  • Collect packing supplies such as boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and markers.

  • Start packing items you use less frequently.

  • Create an inventory of valuable belongings.

  • Notify your landlord if you're renting.


4 Weeks Before Moving

  • Submit a change of address with the post office.

  • Notify banks, insurance providers, employers, schools, and subscription services of your new address.

  • Arrange utility transfers or cancellations, including electricity, water, gas, internet, and trash collection.

  • Confirm your moving date with your movers.


2 Weeks Before Moving

  • Pack most of your remaining belongings.

  • Label every box with its contents and destination room.

  • Arrange childcare or pet care for moving day if needed.

  • Dispose of hazardous materials that movers cannot transport.

  • Confirm moving details one final time.


1 Week Before Moving

  • Pack an essentials box with toiletries, medications, chargers, important documents, snacks, and a few days' worth of clothing.

Moving Day
